It’s summer again, and the time is right for checking out some super books, powering up the armchair (with a renewable energy source, please) and traveling wherever a book will take you - around the corner, or around the world. Our planet is a big, beautiful, and hospitable one, and it’s up to us to keep it that way. This summer we invite you to join the effort, by using your library. Did you know that the average library book is checked out more than 75 times? Talk about recycling! By being a regular member of our community, sharing books and ideas with one another, you make the library a better place for yourself, your family, and for everyone around you. We’re here for you, and, just for you, we’ve got an entire summer’s worth of earth-friendly books and activities to occupy your time and brighten your imagination, all without taxing our planet and her limited resources. Here’s all you have to do:
One Green World, a program designed specifically to celebrate the library’s central role in planetary stewardship, invites young people 0-17 to read and read and read some more. The instructions are simple, and following them is easier than turning off the light when you leave the room (you need to do that, too, by the way). Here’s all there is to it:
As if that weren’t reason enough to hang out at your local Austin Public Library Branch, we’ve got close to a bajillion programs planned for everyone from toddlers to teens, with something special at every location every week.
The 2009 Austin Public Library Summer Reading Program is made possible and sponsored in part by Austin Energy. Through the generous support of Austin Energy the Library is able to provide a dynamic, enriched summer program for the youth of Austin.
